CD Case Journal

Creating a journal with a theme or special meaning is very rewarding throughout the process and with the end result. A project of this size allows you to explore many techniques. The overall journal may look complicated, but when broken down it's actually quite simple. Let's take a look.

Hero Materials:

Additional Materials:
Cd case, papers, fibers, laminate chip, photos, leather, office clasp, library pockets, metal ring tags, slide mount.

Instructions:
Begin the project by choosing coordinating colors of thin and light papers to create layers for collage. Include aged papers and printed material for contrast.

Front Cover
1. Tear and adhere selected papers. Stamp with your favorite real flowers on printed paper. Stamp a message on various colored papers. Mount on two or three contrasting papers.

2. Use a slide mount as a base to add additional paper embellishments. Mount a small stained and date stamped tag with a brad.

3. Add final touches such as a small photo and fibers to complete the piece.

First and Second Page
1. Collage selected papers to fill the background area.

2. On the left side of the page, adhere a stained library pocket and insert tags with and without fibers. Stamp and trim a message and mount to contrasting cardstock. Adhere a photo and an office folder clasp.

3. On the right side, add a combination of an aged envelope pockets, a manila folder, an antiqued ruler, a message using a Dymo label maker and a date slip. Adhere a batiked flower on a metal ring tag with fibers.

4. The page is finished up stamping a unique message.

Third and Fourth Page
1. Collage selected papers to fill the background area.

2. On the left side of the page, mount photos at an angle. Stamp titles, trim and adhere to page.

3. The right portion utilizes some great techniques. Dry emboss a small flower onto yellow vellum. Stain a small tag and handwrite a personal message. Adhere to a heart stamped shipping tag. Arrange loose pieces in a torn library pocket. Stamp a short message on the envelope for a pleasant and personal touch.

Fifth and Sixth Page
1. Collage selected papers to fill the background area.

2. Mount a stamped message onto corrugated cardboard. Adhere a photo to the page along with message and a flower stamped onto a small piece of leather.

3. On the right side, Stamp a laminate chip and adorn with fibers. Insert piece into a collaged pocket. Adhere stamped message on corrugated cardboard and a stamped flower onto pocket.

Completing the Project
Put the cd book together by cutting cardstock the same size as each cd case and use the fold as a hinge. Glue in place to create pages.

Variation:
Soft pastels, color photos, snippets of the first hair cut, messages of first words tucked here and there are perfect for a little baby book. Too Cute!
