Simple Photo Transfers
By Shari Carroll

Photo transfers are a unique way to use images on your card and scrapbook creations. It involves using print or copied images "transfered" with water from its original surface to the surface of your choice. The results can be stunning.

Instructions:
Collecting The Pieces
First choose your images. Look through magazines for photos or images you like. Also, family photos can be color copied to use for this process.

One important note: printer images will not work as the inks are not permanent.

You will also need packing tape or cold laminate sheets.

Prepare Your Transfers
To start, have your images ready to transfer by tearing or cutting as desired. Next, cut a piece of clear packing tape and lay it sticky side up on a flat surface. Place the image, face down, onto the tape and rub with your finger to assure even pressure has been applied.

Next, place the piece into a tray of water, and let sit for 15 minutes or until the paper becomes soft. Next roll the paper off the tape by using your thumb and fingers. I like to work under running water (with a drain screen) until all the paper backing is removed. When working under water the tape does not seem to be sticky, but when dry you will see that it is. Use a lint free cloth to dry. That’s it!

Examples
The sample above uses an image from a magazine; with a script stamped and embossed underneath. A black slide mount was used to frame delicate purple flowers, letters bleached on black paper and punched for interest. A heart punched in black and chalked, wrapped in wire hold a bead to finish the piece.

The card below is very simple. A raccoon photo from a magazine was transferred and mounted atop brown mesh and torn paper. The message was stamped in complimentary colored ink, a tiny tag was made and stamped with raccoon prints attached with an eyelet to complete.
