Heart Box o' Chocolates
Artist: Laura Griffin Dallas, Texas 2nd Place - Stamp Craft Skill Level: Advanced Instructions: BOX TILE INSTRUCTIONS: 1.) Run package of pearl clay through a pasta maching several times at widest setting (or use acrylic roller to flatten clay to desired thickness). 2.) Use square cutters and cut our 6 large (1 1/4") and 6 small (3/4") squares. 3.) Stamp various hearts onto the small red squares. (Tip: It helps to moisten stamp with water before pressing into clay to keep it from sticking>. 4.) Repeat steps 1-3 using white clay. 5.) Using Gold Pearlex Powder, dab a small amount onto each heart. (Tip: It takes very little powder to do this.) 6.) Place stamped clay squares onto opposite color larger clay squares. 7.) Use toothpick or clay tool to decorate edges of bottom square as shown. 8.) "Cook" at 275 degrees for 15 minutes and let cool. 9.) Coat tiles with sealant using a small paint brush. 10.) Let tiles dry. BOX INSTRUCTIONS: 1.) Remove lid and begin working with the bottom of the box. 2.) Cut out strips of red paper that are approximately 3/4" greater that the height of your box. This may take 2-3 sheets of paper. 3.) Fold around box and glue with double-sided tape or other adhesive so all edges of the box. Fold 3/4" over edges of box and glue down inside. 4.) Cut out a piece of black suede paper that fits the bottom of the box and glue in place. 5.) To cover the raw paper edges inside, embellish with black cording. 6.) To cover the box lid, cut out a piece of red paper slightly larger than the lid box. Fold edges over and glue to inside of lid. 7.) Line lid with black suede paper. Attach cording around corners for decoration and to hide any raw edges of paper. 8.) Arrange tiles onto lid of box. Adhere with glue and allow to dry. 9.) Using a gold paint pen, add decorative lines to sides of lid. TIP: For an extra-fancy box, add "feet" on all four corners of the box. CANDY LABELS 1.) On an inkjet printer create labels for miniature chocolate bars. Create your own imaginative Valentine sayings in font of your choice. Add a colored border before printing for added flourish. 2.) Using red ink, stamp a heart icon on each label. (TIP: Stamp first onto scrap paper and then stamp on top of words for a lighter image.) 3.) Cut out labesl. Wrap them around miniature chocolate bars. Glue one end of label to the other. 4.) Add candies to your box and give as a special gift.
